Lifting Equipment Inspection

PROJECT DETAILS

NDT Inspection Solutions offers Lifting Gear Inspection to a wide variety of industries. Most people often wonder why Lifting Equipment & Gears is tested and certified? It is done to prove the equipment is of adequate strength, sound material, good construction and suitable for the duty which it has to perform and ultimately if it is safe to use.

Lifting Equipment is “work equipment used at work for lifting and lowering loads and includes attachments used for anchoring, fixing or supporting the load.” This definition covers a wide variety of equipment such as lifting cranes, hoists, scissors lifts, mobile elevating work platforms, telehandlers, forklifts, chain blocks, web slings, wire slings, chain slings, harnesses, D-shackles, eye bolts, roller blocks, snatch blocks, lifting beams, scaffolding components, tirfors, lever hoists, winders, pulley blocks, ladders, staircase, come-alongs, jacks, bed hoists, gantries, mine winders (ropes head gear & shafts) etc.

All Lifting Equipment should also be checked and maintained as necessary to keep it safe for use. Safe and successful lifting operations depend, in large part, on the continued safety of the lifting equipment and accessories that are used. Failures in this kind of equipment can result in significant or even fatal injuries. Factories and Works RGN 263:1976 as amended therefore places a number of specific obligations on those providing, controlling and using lifting equipment to properly manage these risks.

For most common equipment, methods of inspection include, Visual Examination, Functional Tests, Measurements of Wear, Non-Destructive Testing and Load Testing.
